Tonight the suitcase is pulled from storage, piles of clothes are sitting about and poor Miss Bianca is wide-eyed, bushy tailed and jumpy as she recognizes the obvious signs: my boy and I are heading out of town. It is decidedly not a vacation as I equate the v-word with something at least a week long. BUT, it is a get-away. So I am planning to greedily eat up these next three days as we get to do a number of current favorites… Drive in a CAR. (Holla!) Drink copious amounts of coffee. Explore a historical city. SLEEP. And take pleasure in simply being together.
Oh, and a new fun fact I have learned about myself in the last 15 months of living in Manhattan: driving in a car that is not a cab and not in the city is luxurious. There is definitely something with the phrase “absence makes the heart grow fonder;” because whenever I have the opportunity to just sit, look out of the window at a countryside and enjoy the smooth drive of a car driven by someone I KNOW PERSONALLY and who does not have a penchant for equally stamping on the accelerator and the brake compulsively, I go to my happy place. At least I’m easy to please. Right?
Anyway. We are busting out of this fine city for a bit and have big plans to explore a couple of places up the coast. But the biggest thrill of all? We are visiting Salem. In October. Right before Halloween. What does that mean? Salem Witch Trials Reenactments. Historical tours. And people dressed like they just stepped out of The Wizard of Oz walking down the streets and being completely serious about it.
So yes, I am excited. And I will probably need a tall, black pointy hat in order to fit in. (Can you tell I have a thing for Salem? Both the historical and mythical?) Don’t worry, you’ll hear all about it. Promise.
