“IT’S OK THAT YOU’RE NOT INTO CAMPING”

I have known myself for over thirty years at this point in the timeline of life. And in those thirty years I cannot remember a single time I harbored the thought that camping was something I would enjoy. I look at people who find enrichment in pulling on hiking boots and those zip-off khaki pants , strapping on a backpack filled to the brim with necessities [toilet paper, iodine drops and insect repellent] before setting off into the great outdoors with the goal of finding a nice spot to sleep outside… and simply don’t understand.

In fact, the ONE TIME in our entire relationship that my boy and I attempted a camping trip it was at the famed Joshua Tree State Park and it ended in tears. Hands that were so cold they turned into useless blocks of fleshy ice. And a long drive home in the middle of the night. Needless to say, he has not encouraged me to give it a go again. A common phrase in our household is “it’s ok, Love, you don’t have to like camping… hiking… being outside…”

But what if we are both wrong?

Because I could go camping here…

Oh wait. Did you think I meant camping as in SLEEPING IN A TENT?

You misunderstand. You see, at Lake Louisa in Alberta, Canada, this is considered “camping”…

Not a tent anywhere to be seen. Just the way I like it.

Anyone want to camp with me?

That’s the only type of camping I would ever attempt!

This is so me too! My dear husband took me to the BWCA on a lovely trip for our anniversary one year. 70 degrees going in, hauling all this stuff in a canoe on a big lake (scary), 32 degrees rain and wind for 2 days while there…Sleeping in a tent, tree root in my back….no refrigerator for food or proper dish cleaning, fearing a bear would find me and my hidden cliff bars and sprite….I did not enjoy…. Love your style of camping!
